Competitive Balance Adjustments

With Ver. 1.4.1, we aim to boost the viability of existing playstyles across the board, so we added and adjusted Gadgets accordingly.

To support less dominant strategies focused on Air Tricks, collisions, item attacks, and Mercy, a host of new Gadgets have been introduced.

In addition, we've reworked certain Support Gadgets that were difficult to use effectively and added new ones, ensuring all players have plenty of versatile options to choose from.

Existing Gadgets that provide stat upgrades have been buffed across the board, so that they can perform on the same level as the Hyper Ring Engine and the newly added Evolution Gadgets.

We've fixed an issue with Ring Engines where racers could be put at an advantage or disadvantage depending on their starting position, and reduced the effectiveness of stacking both Ring Engines.

Going forward, more adjustments will be made to balance Gadget usage and win rates.

Adjustments to Initial Rings

In all modes except Time Trial, all players will have 20 Rings at the start of a race.

Up through Ver. 1.3, initial Ring counts differed based on starting position to offset positional advantages. This made certain Ring-related Gadgets, such as Ring Engine and Less is More, easier or harder to activate depending on where you started, and occasionally created balance issues at the beginning of races. Now, we believe that starting position has a smaller impact on the game's current competitive scene.

As such, all players, regardless of position, will begin each race with 20 Rings to ensure everyone starts on a level playing field.

*This change does not apply to Time Trial.

Festival Adjustments

King Boom Boo and other powerful items are likelier to appear as the distance between players increases. Additionally, the Ring Engine and Hyper Ring Engine Gadgets can now be used during Festivals.

In Ver. 1.3, differences in skill level and squad composition were often key determiners of a race's outcome. However, Ring Engine and Hyper Ring Engine had a notably stronger impact on Team Races than they did on modes like World Match, due to their strong synergy with the invincibility from Super Team Boost and the lack of friendly fire.

We had to restrict the use of these two Gadgets in Festivals as a result, but in light of the adjustments made in this update, you'll be able to race with them once more.

Going forward, more adjustments will be made to keep Festivals balanced.

Gadget Adjustments

  • ・Hyper Ring Engine

Fixed an issue where equipping Hyper Ring Engine on its own would not increase top speed. It now increases top speed by 4 km/h.

  • ・Ring Engine & Hyper Ring Engine

The combined effect of using both Ring Engines has been adjusted in the following ways.

    1. 1. Max speed lowered from 11 km/h to 9 km/h.

    2. 2. Fixed an issue where having fewer Rings would increase stats drastically.

While using a loadout with both Ring Engine Gadgets comes with the drawback of losing Rings every 0.5 seconds, this setup performed better than intended in Ver. 1.3. As such, its effectiveness has been reduced in this update.

*These changes do not apply to Time Trial, in consideration of their impact on the World Ranking.

  • Crash Pads

Now takes up 1 slot instead of 2.

Due to its low win rate and limited impact on match outcomes when used on its own, we've made Crash Pads more versatile for use in a wider range of loadouts.

  • Item Keeper

Dark Chao now triggers this Gadget's ability, with only empty item slots affected by its attacks.

Equipping Item Keeper also prevents you from losing items when targeted by an attack locked on to you.

*This Gadget's effect does not apply to forced item changes caused by Boost Frenzy.

  • Spin Drift/Drift Spinner Kit

Now knocks other Machines further away.

The knockback effect when racing with a low Power stat has been increased.

  • Perfect Charge Boost

Slightly increased the duration of the boost caused by a perfect charge.

  • Friction Drift

Fixed an issue where the player would slow down even when not drifting.

  • Quick Starter/Slow Starter

Stat bonus increased from +10 to +20.

  • Super Quick Starter/Super Slow Starter

Stat bonus increased from +20 to +60.

  • Tuner Gadgets

The stat bonuses granted by Gadgets for each Machine type have been doubled.

Gadget does not match Machine type: +4 → +8

    Gadget matches Machine type: +10 → +20

*Stat reductions have not been changed.

  • Machine Kit Gadgets

The stat adjustments for matching Machine types have been reworked.

Until now, these gadgets would give a +20 boost to one stat and a -16 penalty to another. Going forward, the +20 bonus will remain, but there will be no penalty.

  • Ace Pilot Kit

Flight form stat bonus increased from +10 to +20.

  • Sea Dog Kit

Water form stat bonus increased from +10 to +20.

  • Panel Combo Kit

Power and Handling stat bonuses increased from +4 to +8.
